Hartley nature Center is a sprawling park that has seen many ups and downs over the years. At one time a working farm, it is now a natural area with a mixture of invasive species, densely planted trees (like rows of corn) and a large pond with a stream. It also suffered a major blow-down during an intense summer storm, losing thousands of trees. Efforts are underway to remove the invasive species, plant a variety of native trees,  and turn the worst damaged areas into pollinator meadows.
